NetApp to Acquire PEAK:AIO to Boost Scalable AI Infrastructure
NetApp announced plans to acquire PEAK:AIO, a parallel file system pioneer, to accelerate its AI infrastructure roadmap for GPU-scale workloads.
NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP), the San Jose-based intelligent data infrastructure company, announced Monday its intention to acquire PEAK:AIO, a specialist in next-generation metadata architecture and high-performance parallel file systems. The deal is designed to strengthen NetApp's position as enterprises race to build AI factories capable of handling unprecedented computational demands.
The acquisition targets a specific bottleneck in modern AI deployments: legacy storage architectures were never built to handle the scale, concurrency, and performance requirements that today's AI workloads demand. As GPU clusters grow larger and more interconnected, shared storage systems must expand in lockstep — a challenge that conventional infrastructure consistently fails to meet.

PEAK:AIO's core contribution is its parallel namespace technology, which allows metadata services to scale independently from underlying data. NetApp has been building toward an architecture that separates metadata and data into distinct layers, and the PEAK:AIO acquisition accelerates that roadmap by injecting specialized expertise and proven technology directly into the product stack.
The strategic logic is straightforward: as AI becomes embedded across every enterprise workload category, the infrastructure underpinning those deployments must evolve just as rapidly. NetApp is positioning itself as the connective tissue between GPU compute clusters and the data those systems consume, a role that carries significant long-term revenue implications in the cloud and on-premises storage markets.
Financial terms of the planned acquisition were not disclosed. Continue reading at BusinessWire.
