Zcash Drops Sharply as Geopolitical Fears Fuel Crypto Selloff
Zcash shed most of its weekly gains as Iran strike reports and Fed hawkishness triggered broad crypto risk aversion.
Zcash plunged sharply Thursday as a confluence of geopolitical risks and macroeconomic fears hammered the broader cryptocurrency market, erasing the majority of the coin's weekly gains in a single session. The selloff began late Wednesday before accelerating after a New York Times report revealed that U.S. and Israeli militaries had drafted detailed plans for potential strikes against Iran following the U.S. midterm elections, with additional American forces expected to be fully deployed to the region by early November.
The prospect of a direct military confrontation between the U.S. and Iran amplified an already fragile risk environment. Compounding the pressure, traders remain on edge over a Federal Reserve that appears locked into a hawkish policy stance as persistent inflationary pressures give policymakers little room to pivot, choking off appetite for speculative assets like cryptocurrencies.

Analysts are now watching U.S. Flash PMI data as the next major market catalyst. Weaker-than-expected readings could deepen growth fears and trigger another leg lower for Zcash, while a stronger print might spark a short-lived relief rally. However, any bounce is likely to be temporary given the persistently bearish macro backdrop still hanging over risk assets.
From a technical standpoint, Zcash is contending with a key support zone around the 1,031 level on the daily chart. A hold there could attract buyers targeting a move toward 2,000, while a breakdown would open the door to the 800 level. On shorter timeframes, the coin broke below an ascending trendline that had been anchoring bullish momentum, signaling that sellers have reasserted control in the near term.
