MasTec Acquires Superior Group to Boost Data Center Infrastructure
MasTec strikes a deal to buy The Superior Group, a century-old Ohio electrical contractor, expanding its footprint in data centers and critical infrastructure.
MasTec, Inc. announced Monday it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Electrical Specialists, Inc., doing business as The Superior Group, a full-service electrical contractor specializing in critical infrastructure. The deal broadens the NYSE-listed infrastructure giant's capabilities across data center and mission-critical end markets at a time when demand for such facilities is surging nationwide.
Founded in 1925 and headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, Superior brings nearly a century of operational history to the transaction. The Stewart family has helmed the company since the mid-1980s, when Greg Stewart first acquired an ownership interest, giving the firm deep roots in specialized electrical contracting that MasTec views as strategically complementary to its existing portfolio.

The acquisition signals MasTec's continued push to position itself at the center of America's infrastructure buildout, particularly as data center construction accelerates driven by artificial intelligence workloads and cloud computing expansion. Adding Superior's expertise in mission-critical electrical systems could give MasTec a competitive edge in winning large-scale contracts that require highly specialized capabilities.
MasTec, based in Coral Gables, Florida, has pursued an aggressive growth-through-acquisition strategy in recent years, assembling a broad portfolio of infrastructure services spanning telecommunications, energy, and civil construction. The addition of Superior represents a targeted bet on the critical facilities sector as one of the fastest-growing segments within infrastructure spending.
