MDA Space Moves to Acquire AI Earth Observation Firm CLS
Canadian space company MDA Space has made a firm offer to buy a majority stake in CLS, a global AI-driven Earth observation analytics provider.
MDA Space Ltd. announced Tuesday it has entered into a firm and irrevocable offer to acquire a majority interest in CLS, a France-based provider of AI-powered Earth observation data analytics and satellite Internet of Things solutions, in a deal that would significantly expand the Toronto-headquartered company's global footprint.
CLS serves more than 14,000 customers across approximately 150 countries, making it one of the broadest-reach players in the satellite data analytics market. The company is projected to generate roughly €286 million — equivalent to approximately C$465 million — in revenue during 2026, underscoring the scale MDA Space would absorb through the transaction.

The acquisition signals MDA Space's strategic push deeper into value-added Earth observation services, a segment growing rapidly as demand rises from governments, agriculture, maritime, and environmental monitoring sectors worldwide. AI-driven analytics layered on top of satellite data have become an increasingly competitive differentiator for space industry players seeking recurring, software-like revenue streams.
MDA Space trades on both the Toronto Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker MDA, giving the company access to capital on both sides of the border to fund its expansion ambitions. The firm has positioned itself as a mission partner to the broader global space economy, and the CLS deal would add a commercially mature analytics business to its existing capabilities in satellite systems and robotics.
Terms beyond the majority-interest structure and revenue figures were not disclosed in Tuesday's announcement. Continue reading at GlobalNewswire.
